What Happens in a Massage Therapy Session? Your therapist will explain in detail what procedures will be undertaken during your massage. You will be asked to provide a brief medical history to ensure that you have no medical condition that is contraindicated for the therapy that will be undertaken. All information provided by you is treated with the utmost confidentiality. If necessary, your therapist may seek permission from your general practitioner prior to performing a massage. This is done in the best interests of your health and safety. Massage therapists are not qualified to perform spinal or skeletal adjustments, diagnose, prescribe or alter medication. Feedback throughout the massage to your therapist is essential to ensure you are comfortable. Advise your therapist if the massage strokes being applied are too hard or too soft so that pressure can be adjusted for you. Likewise, if a technique feels particularly relaxing or beneficial, tell your therapist. Some Hints: Prior to your massage please remove all jewellery. Pull long hair back with a clip. As a rule, massage is given while you are unclothed. Modesty and comfort levels vary from person to person. You may choose to wear undergarments or nothing at all. This is your massage and you should feel as comfortable as possible. We provide all clean linen and towels and all equipment is sterilised before each use. Feel free to ask your therapist any questions about the procedure. Your therapist is a highly trained professional and will be happy to make you feel well informed and comfortable. Generally a full massage session will take an hour to complete. You can have a longer session if you wish. Please check with your therapist for details. After your massage, we recommend that you drink plenty of water to assist your body to flush out toxins that may have been mobilised from within muscle tissue during your massage.
